How and Why Wonder Books: "When I was a kid, my parents often bought me books from the 'How and Why Wonder books' series. These were produced in the US during the 1960's and covered many subjects in science, technology, nature and history. They were large format books of 270x205mm, mostly softcover, but hardcover was also available. They are always 48 pages long, and mostly illustrated with simple painted artwork, though some photographs are used. The books are structured into chapters based on sub-topics of the title subject, and within these are questions that a child might ask, followed by a half page answer to the question."

The Monochrome Set, The Scarlet’s Well & The Unreal Scarlet’s Well

Hemsida: http://www.bid.clara.net/mset/

Nutid: 1998 inledde Bid sitt nuvarande musikaliska äventyr: Scarlet's Well. Scarlet’s Well har hittills gjort fyra album, senast ”The Dream Spider of the Laughing Horse” som kom ut våren 2004.
Hemsida: http://www.scarletswell.co.uk

2004 Results: "A 42-year-old software developer and former National Spelling Bee contestant is the winner of the 2004 edition of the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest. Dave Zobel of Manhattan Beach, California, won with his timely entry.

An international literary parody contest, the competition honors the memory (if not the reputation) of Victorian novelist Edward George Earl Bulwer-Lytton (1803-1873). The goal of the contest is childishly simple: entrants are challenged to submit bad opening sentences to imaginary novels. Although best known for 'The Last Days of Pompeii' (1834), which has been made into a movie three times, originating the expression 'the pen is mightier than the sword,' and phrases like 'the great unwashed' and 'the almighty dollar,' Bulwer-Lytton opened his novel Paul Clifford (1830) with the immortal words that the 'Peanuts' beagle Snoopy plagiarized for years, 'It was a dark and stormy night.'"

Music Article | Reuters.com: "Fifty years after it was first released in the United States, Elvis Presley's 'That's All Right' is a hit in Great Britain.

The single entered the British charts last week at No. 3. But for BMG, the company releasing the track, the celebration might be short-lived.

If there are no changes in European copyright law, the track will fall into public domain Jan. 1, 2005. Anyone will be able to release it without paying royalties to the owners of the master or the performer's heirs. BMG will start losing a significant piece of its catalog income in Europe."

I've always been interested in the reality after the hype, and so after I received a copy of The Complete Handbook of Baseball: 1980 Season, which, among other things, profiles who the writers think are the top prospects in each team’s minor-league system, and started flipping past names both familiar and very unfamiliar, I started wondering: What happened to these guys? How did they turn out? What are they doing now?

Fleep.

Heh, slarvigt.
|

: "Fleep currently appears in the weekly newspaper, 'Asian Week'. It's about a boy who wakes up in a telephone booth which has been mysteriously selaed in an envelope of concrete. Using only the contents of his pockets (two pens, a paperback novel, three coins and 20 ft of unwaxed dental floss) our hero must fashion and execute an escape plan before he runs out of oxygen. Believe it or not, I try to end each strip on a cliffhanger which is very challanging considering most of the 42 strips take place inside this one phone booth."

Shot over 16 months in locations throughout the United States, Combover: the Movie is a documentary that peers into the fascinating world of a classic yet heavily criticized hairstyle: the combover. This film is about more than just a method for disguising male pattern baldness, it’s a humorous chronicling of one man’s fascination with the combover. The cameras followed Chris Marino as he surveyed the country searching for answers and for “extreme combovers.”

"Jessica Simpson gets catty and cozy, when she poses for next month's Vanity Fair. But does America's favorite 'Newlywed' play up her role as a ditzy blonde for the cameras? In the article, Editor Krista Smith writes that Jessica may actually have an IQ up there with Albert Einstein.
In fact, Jessica's mom says her daughter's IQ is in the 160s. 'The genius IQ is from Tina Simpson,' Smith revealed. 'I do think the ditziness is played up a bit on MTV. I think it's edited in a very clever way.' "

Thanks to French photo-journalists Pascal Rostain, 45 and Bruno Mouron, 50, there is now a new, improved, even more intrusive and stalker-like way to idolize and relate to your favorite celebrities. For the past 14 years, the Paris Match photographers, armed with a celebrity star map and a pair of rubber gloves, have been waiting til the sun goes down to rifle through, collect, and photograph celebrity garbage. That's right: trash, refuse, waste, Governor Schwarzenegger's empty Newman's Own Lemonade cartons. And through July 16, at the Star Trash Store in Manhattan, you can view Star Trash, an exhibit of photographs documenting 25 Hollywood superstars' waste products, including (but not limited to) Madonna's empty Cocoa Pebbles box, Mel Gibson's discarded Etch-A-Sketch, and Steven Spielberg's tattered copy of TV Guide.

"A web page," the work at the center of this installation, is a conversion of a well-known webpage (*1) into painted form. Simply put, the painting depicts an entire webpage along with the window that frames it! Yet, at the same time, it's not just a painting, but also "an analogization of a digital object" or "a landscape painting of the Internet." (After all, we see it through a "window"!)

What does music look like? The Shape of Song is an attempt to answer this seemingly paradoxical question. The custom software in this work draws musical patterns in the form of translucent arches, allowing viewers to see--literally--the shape of any composition available on the Web. The resulting images reflect the full range of musical forms, from the deep structure of Bach to the crystalline beauty of Philip Glass.
